Dentsply Sirona, Waltham, MA, is looking for a senior back-end engineer with AI product development and people management experience. The candidate will join a MLE team that builds infrastructure around the AI models in our cloud-based solution, DS Core as a chapter (team) lead. This role combines technical know-how with development skills and leadership abilities, allowing the successful candidate to mentor, inspire, and empower team members to meet project objectives.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Chapter (team) lead

  • People leader for chapter members, providing coaching, mentoring and support

  • Technical expertise, sharp knowledge of software development principles, strategies, ideas and technologies is crucial for this leadership role

  • Work closely with other stakeholders on setting clear goals for team member and ensure alignment with business and departmental goals

  • Motivating, providing guidance, feedback and performance reviews for chapter members, encourage performance improvement

  • Team and people development and conflict resolution

  • Organize cross-chapter activities

  • Engineering

  • System design surrounding AI/ML services

  • Implement microservices in Kubernetes (Docker and Terraform).

  • Design and develop testing and monitoring tools for AI/ ML models

  • Design and build data pipelines (from storage to monitoring telemetries)

  • Design, develop and support our CI/CD pipeline for AI/ ML models

  • Optimize AI models: reducing latency and inference cost.

  • Collaborate closely with our AI/ ML science teams, software architects, and software development teams to bring AI/ ML research to production.

  • Work closely with the QA team to provide SOUP validation, test documentation, IT security documentation, and regulatory compliance documentations.

  • Work closely with the AI/ML scientists and engineers to design and implement automatic tests.

  • Researching and adopting best MLOps (Machine Learning Operations) practices to design and develop end-to-end machine learning pipelines

  • Provide deployment tool for our AI/ ML scientists

  • Provide and maintain experimenting tools for our ML scientists

  • Perform high quality code reviews

Education: Masters or PhD degree in computer science, statistics, mathematics, or related field

Years and Type of Experience :

  • 5+ years of professional experience working in cloud infrastructure development

  • 3+ years of professional experience in building and optimizing data/ML model pipelines and projects in a business environment

  • 3+ years of professional experience working with common machine learning frameworks

  • 6+ years proven track record of leadership qualities.

Key Skills, Knowledge & Capabilities:

  • Experience in Golang and Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

  • Experience in writing and deploying microservices with Kubernetes, Docker and Terraform

  • Experience building end-to-end systems as a Software Engineer, DevOps, or Data Engineer (or equivalent)

  • Experience in developing end-to-end data products handling heterogeneous data sets

  • Experience with modern back-end machine learning tech stacks

  • Experience in DevOps especially with Google Cloud project configuration as plus

  • Familiarity in cloud service architecture as a plus

  • Experience in one of the ML model development libraries is a plus: TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, etc.
